When doing training at the dojo or at the martial arts studio, you want EVA foam that delivers cushioning to protect against falls and that delivers firmness for quick movements required for success in multiple martial arts.
This 1.5-inch thick foam material includes a fall height rating of 4 feet to protect from potential head injuries when falling during workouts.
Easy to Install Puzzle Mats

There’s no need to hire a pro to perform the flooring layout, because the puzzle edges snap together with very little effort and with no need to use glue.
Our MMA mats measure 40 by 40 inches and provide a good value per square foot of coverage. The large-size mats for sale allow the installation process to go quickly, meaning you can do the work during normal off hours without having to close the studio or cancel classes.
These large-sized mats are ideal for commercial martial arts studios as smaller mats will have more interlocking seams. For home use or small sizes, we recommend the Home BJJ Mats as the 2x2 foot size ships via ground delivery while large mats ship via freight truck.
Each tile comes with 4 borders to create a finished edge look. Optional border ramps in the color gray are available to create a transition to reduce tripping hazards.

Reversible Tiles With Different Colors on Each Side
In a large, open martial arts studio space, creating areas designated for specific workouts without putting up walls or cones can be challenging.
Our double-sided, reversible tiles have different colors on each side, so you can designate different spaces in the studio via the color patterns on the flooring.
We offer five different total colors in various color combinations. Additionally, you can mix and match mats because each grapple mat uses the same puzzle edge design. Reversible color options include:

Disclaimer
Color variation is possible from lot to lot, even within the same order. Using a checkerboard or other multi-color pattern can hep make this variation less noticeable.
When coloring from the martial arts puzzle mats comes off on feet or uniforms, this is not uncommon with BJJ puzzle mats. We find that red and black are the most susceptible colors to this issue.
These can expand in heat and humidity. Allow tiles to acclimate before installation.
Mat thickness tolerance, plus or minus 2 mm from 40 mm as the standard baseline thickness.
Maintenance
Product can be damp mopped with hot water. Test your vacuum before use.

Q: Does this help with floor noise? My children are always jumping around, and I am trying to find a solution. My floors are hardwood.
A: Yes, this would help; it's a very thick and durable foam tile.
Q: Are the edge pieces angled toward the floor to assist with avoiding trip hazards? If not, can you supply it?
A: We do have a beveled down edge piece that is available as an add-on product. The edges supplied with the tiles are not beveled; please contact customer service for additional information.
Q: Are these difficult to cut to fit odd-shaped rooms?
Q: What is good for repairing punctures in these mats? There are three holes to repair that were made from staves impacting the floor.
A: Great question, however, we do not have a great answer, you could try guerilla glue in the cut areas to hold the material back in place.
Q: Does this foam become slippery when wet or sweaty?
A: Most surfaces will be more slippery when wet. It's best to use when dry when possible. These tiles may be a little more slippery when wet, depending on the shoe type or use without shoes.
Q: Are these mats too soft for doing Karate in addition to Jiu Jitsu?
Q: I am thinking of installing these mats in an area that isn't climate-controlled. What temperature range can these mats handle?
A: These foam mats will shrink in the cold and expand in the heat; they do require a stable climate environment.
Q: I have laminate flooring, and I want to create space for my son to practice MMA. To maximize the useful area, I'd like to also be able to use the same space for p90X. What mats do you recommend for this diversity to hold up for the p90x lateral movements yet be ok for my son's practice too?
A: We have a home version of the Grappling MMA Mats.
Q: I installed these in my basement and love them, but I tend to get a lot of static electricity when I roll around on them. Any ideas on how to reduce the static?
A: You could try using a humidifier in the room or damp-mopping the mats.
Q: What if I got my body slammed or landed on my back doing a drop kick? Would I get hurt?
A: These mats have been tested and have an ASTM fall height rating of 4 feet, protecting against serious head injuries. They do not prevent all injuries.
Q: Are these mats also good for cross fitness workouts?
A: The surface will likely wear faster if you do cross fitness workouts on this. It will hold up, but it isn't designed for that. Usually, plyometric rubber rolls are used for cross fitness workout areas.
Q: Can these mats be used for hot yoga? Approximately 90-100 degrees?
A: Yes. They can be used for this, but be aware the mats may expand in those conditions.
Q: Do these colors rub off onto the Gi's? Will a white Gi stain black after rolling on a black mat?
A: Some coloring from the martial arts puzzle mats may come off on feet or uniforms. Please understand that this is not uncommon with BJJ puzzle mats. We find that red and black are the most susceptible colors to this issue.
Q: Do you make a wood grain floor mat that is 1-1/2 inch by 1x1 meter?

I purchased these mats for my home training dojo, approximately 1000 sq ft. (28'x36') which has become a local martial arts training club. I selected these mats in hope that they would offer the perfect solution for both stand up training and fighting (karate), and take-downs / throwing (ju-jitsu). What I've found in the first nine months is that the mats are too slick for stand-up. We've incurred several muscle pulls from feet slipping out during training. They are also not compliant enough for full body throws, but ok for light take-downs (better than concrete). Rather than having a perfect combination of floor properties, these mats in my opinion are an inadequate compromise for both stand up fighting and take down fighting. They are probably very well suited for ground grappling / wrestling only.

My martial arts school purchased these Grappling MMA mats for our main floor after a years of just pulling out gymnastic folding mats for rolls, falls and throws. Covering our floor with these mats has been a great decision because now our students don't need to ''aim'' for a certain part of the floor to fall. We had another brand of mats for some years prior, however they were entirely too firm for falling. The mats from GreatMats are the perfect balance of firmness for forms practice and cushy enough for grappling and takedown practice, and are very easy to clean and disinfect.

I purchased it to train judo and jujitsu however the mats are very slippery and too firm to throw hard and land hard on. I do not at all suggest these mats if your training jujitsu it judo since there is absolutely no grip. Other then that they are easy to install and look good.
