Rather than going through the hassle of installing a heavy roll of carpet, our 2x2 ft interlocking carpet tiles make use of a puzzle edge where the tiles lock together without needing glue.

Q: How do you clean this carpet if you cover an entire basement floor with it? It would be too much work to take them all outside to wash them and then reinstall them. Can you use a rug shampooer?
A: This carpet can be vacuumed and cleaned like other carpet materials. We don't have experience with the steam cleaning option.
Q: Can you wear high heels on this without indenting or messing it up?
A: Yes. High heels will not damage these carpet tiles.
Q: Could you park a lightweight sports car on it?
A: You could, but the weight of the car would most likely leave indentations in the foam base.
Q: Are the edge borders beveled?
A: With this product, they are not.
Q: Could this be used as the flooring in a home gym? (ie., put a pilates machine and a small weight rack on it.)
Is it water resistant? Could I scotch guard it to protect it from sweat?
A: The carpet is waterproof; we are not sure about the Scotchguard, and yes, lightweight home gym equipment can be placed on top of these carpet tiles. Equipment that is too heavy may leave indentations in the foam base.
Q: Can these tiles be used on a covered porch? There is some water that comes in, and the temperature changes.
A: Yes, but then you have to take the carpet up each time it gets wet for drying purposes. Maybe go with a perforated PVC tile like our StayLock Perforated Tile.
Q: Can these carpet tiles be glued down?
A: They can be, and they don't need to be, as they are interlocking tiles.
Q: Would these carpet tiles be good for a classroom rug? Is the carpet soft, or does it have more of a scratchy feel?
A: The carpeting has a soft feel and is made from a polypropylene and polyethylene blend. The material is waterproof and easy to clean.

Q: Can these be placed over existing carpet?
A: These can be placed over a low pile, no pad carpet if installed wall-to-wall. Small island installations may shift overtop of existing carpet, and if an existing carpet is well padded, some separation may occur between interlocking carpet tiles placed over it due to heavy objects/feet sinking into the padding at the seams.
Q: Which color has less of a seam appearance when put together in a large area?
A: Maybe the darker colors will show fewer seams. If you are ok with a checkerboard pattern, alternating colors is the best way to disguise any color variations that may be present.
Q: What is the best way to install wall-to-wall if your room is not square?
A: The tiles can be custom installed with custom cuts using a sharp utility knife.

Q: Are the edge-borders separate thin strips, or can the tiles be purchased such that the perimeter tiles have the edge-borders ''built-in'' to the edge tiles? i.e., do the four corner tiles and the 12 interior edge tiles on a 10' x 10' have a straight edge?
A: All of the tiles are the same, all of the borders are separate snap on pieces, and no tiles have a built in edge.
Q: I need area rugs/anti fatigue mats in a basement that gets water seepage during heavy rains. When this happens, my anti fatigue mats and area rugs get soaked and are very heavy to remove and take outside to dry out. Is your product a solution? Do these soak up water if I get water in my basement? Or will they remain dry, and the water will travel around them?
A: The carpet tiles do not absorb water themselves. I would also consider using a perforated modular tile, such as our Patio Outdoor Tile, underneath your existing fatigue mats.
Q: How well does this help with insulating the floor?
A: The carpet tile will stay at the same temperature as the room.
Q: How would you cut the tiles to fit around a semi-circled fireplace hearth?
A: Cut these interlocking, padded carpet tiles with a sharp utility knife. Perhaps make a template for the curved area.
Q: I'd like to lay this over a concrete floor that has been revealed to have old black mastic adhesive. Is it OK to put a vapor shield under these tiles?
A: Yes, you can install a plastic vapor sheet under these interlocking carpet tiles.
Q: I'm looking for a product that can be used on radiant heat floors. Would this work?
A: Foam tiles are completely safe to use over in-floor heating systems. However, the foam does provide a layer of insulation between the floor and the room, so it may block a small amount of heat from escaping the floor. Further, foam tiles can expand with changes in heat and humidity. We suggest allowing the foam tiles to acclimate to the room before installation. It's also smart to allow for a small gap between tiles and walls when executing wall-to-wall installations.
Q: Will the tiles lay flat on uneven floors?
A: These interlocking squares will flow with slopes and work well over slight imperfections. If you have large gaps or divots, they should be corrected before adding another floor.
Q: I'm looking for a carpet tile to go on my deck boat that will hold up so I don't have to pull all my seating and everything off just to replace the floor and walk way area. Would this product work for that? I have a lot of friends with pontoon boats who would buy it for the same reason.
A: These mats are not designed for outdoor use. Customers use these for their boats and pontoon decks with success. We suggest taking them up when not in use or covering them. These mats can be cut to fit using a sharp utility knife to fit around your seating.
Q: Do these tiles emit a smell?
A: These carpet mats have not been known to smell. We suggest getting a sample.
Q: Can I use this carpet tile under a soft sided hot tub? It is a 6' round shape that holds 300 gallons (about 2,400 pounds). The weight is spread out over the entire bottom (no legs). I want to carpet the entire room (12x12) and place the movable soft tub on top. There is a concrete floor underneath.
A: We suggest placing the carpet tiles around the perimeter of the tub, not beneath it.
Q: How wide are the border strips? It looks like they add about an inch to the tile. Is that right?
A: The borders add about a 1/2'' to the tiles per border.
Q: Will this carpet hold up to roller desk chairs moving around on it?
A: This is a soft, padded carpet tile. We recommend using a firm vinyl or PVC desk chair mat over the top of the carpet tiles where you'll be using roller desk chairs.
Q: Can you install this material on the walls? If so, what kind of adhesive?
A: You can try using contact cement to attach them to the walls.
Q: Will these interlock with the 5/8 foam kids and gym mats?
A: No, it's a different interlock.
Q: What if the interlocking pieces get smushed/crushed? Is there anything I can do to help them regain their shape and thickness?
A: Depending on the severity of the affected area, allowing the tiles to lay flat over time may help them regain their shape.
Q: Is the backing still a polypropylene and polyethylene blend, and is this material toxic? Do you know how it compares to EVA foam?
A: The foam backing on these tiles is EVA foam, which does not contain BPA or phthalates.
Q: How much weight do they hold?
A: These carpet tiles are strong enough to last under tables and chairs. However, heavy furniture left in place for an extended period will likely leave indents if furniture coasters are not used beneath the legs.
Q: Is it possible to remove a damaged tile and replace it with another after installation?
A: Yes. Replacement of damaged tiles is simple as they are not glued or taped down and the interlocks do not clip or overlap from top to bottom.
Q: Will this significantly reduce ambient noise if it is installed in a playroom on the first floor of a house?
A: Our customers tell us this is a huge help in noise reduction and acoustics.
Q: Will these interlock with the black rubber ones in order to make an easy clean-up area near a door or wall?
A: No, the interlocks are different.
Q: Will these get moldy on the bottom if the basement floor gets slightly damp from time to time?
A: We would recommend pulling the tiles up and allowing the floor to dry.
Q: Is this pet-friendly?
A: The tiles do vacuum nicely, but results with pet hair could vary depending on the length and texture of the animal's fur. They are stain-resistant and waterproof but not watertight at the seams. In case of any pet accidents or liquid spills, you will want to clean up the liquid as soon as possible.

This flooring is great! Install was super easy and quick. The flooring feels comfortable to walk/stand on, it doesn't slide around, and seems like it will last a long time. We used them for a game area in our corporate office. I was a bit nervous about ordering online without seeing samples or feeling it for myself, but I am 110% satisfied with these carpet squares!

Royal Interlocking Carpet in the basement is wonderful. Install is super easy with a utility knife to trim to fit for a wall to wall installation. Keeping the ''grain'' of the carpet in the same direction is easy when you review the back of the product when installing. My wife actually laid the field and enjoyed doing it. Look forward to using it some more!

Working with GreatMats was easy. The website worked well, and emails to customer service were quickly answered with good feedback.
The carpet tiles themselves are nice and thick. It seems like they are of good quality. All of the pieces fit together snugly. As others have said, there is some variation in color between some of the tiles, but for our basement recreation room this was the fastest and best option for getting down a nice, soft flooring that helps make the room an inviting space.
I've attached a photo to show the finished product. In all honesty, if the photo was taken from the other end of the room the tile seams show more because of what direction the light comes from. For our situation seeing the seams does not bother us at all.

Great Carpet Tile, we used it for a trade show booth. It was quick going down and easy to pack back up after the show. The light weight and comfortable pad were major selling points for us. We spent 3 days standing on it all day long and no one complained of foot pain. We had heavy equipment that left a temporary indent in the foam. 24-36 hours after removing the equipment the foam bounced back and looked new!

Great mat! I like the foam back so it won't breakdown like typical carpets. Seems pretty durable so far. The dark grey closest to the camera is the plush, which is a much softer foam. The one in the middle is the Royal which has a mat like foam on the back, I find it extremely comfortable and will use it for the project. The furthest is a walmart tile which isn't terrible but nothing close to the royal.

I've been using it for a home recording studio and also as an exercise room. The mats install super easily. It's durable. It's easy to clean. It made the concrete floor a lot warmer. It has some nice insulation properties to it so it's a lot more comfortable on the feet. It feels really good on bare feet. It offers some sound insulation. It's really easy to trim to any customized shape. It has a nice bounce to it, which you don't get with regular carpet. It also beads water really well. Overall, I've been super happy with it. It's definitely improved the space as both a work space and a living space.

These mats are truly great. I have the rubber mats in the garage, and carpet mats in the laundry room and on the front porch. Though the folks at Greatmats say not use the the carpet mats outdoors. I put them on the porch that is enclosed only on three sides.
If heavy rains are predicted, I roll out a tarp to cover the exposed side. It only takes a minute and works perfectly keeping the end row dry. The laundry room is built on a slab and it has one wall shared with an unheated garage. Its floor would be freezing cold during our northeast Ohio winters. Put the carpet squares down, and it has made a world of difference keeping the floor and entire room much warmer and far better looking. Much easier to do a quick vacuum instead of swabbing down linoleum! A few rows of the rubber ones in the garage are for my dog to cushion his jumps out of the car, and prevent the us from any slipping on wet concrete. Easy to install, and quick delivery. I’m very pleased with these mats.

This is a GREAT, inexpensive solution for our Den. We ripped up a grimy old shag carpet in a house we bought last year, and there was only plywood underneath. We wanted something easy for us to install ourselves. We knew going in that there would be some color variation, but since we have a beautiful wool area rug, decided we could live with it. This really was a great solution for us, but the product is really not top notch for a living room, more for a finished basement floor. In addition to the color variation, the carpet top is shedding off, just with foot traffic, not to mention when you vacuum. Also, there are arrows on the back of the tiles, showing the direction of the nap, but that info is buried on the website and we did not see it till we were half-way done with the project. How about sending instructions in the box? Finally, cutting anything other than a straight line is next to impossible, such as around doorways with molded frames. However, I am overall pleased, since it was the least expensive, easiest DIY and fast solution for our den floor.

We installed the interlocking carpet tiles in our basement and we couldn’t be happier. It is such a great option for basement flooring. If the floor gets wet, you pick up the tiles, dry them off and put them back down. This is a great option for people with mold health issues.

After doing diligent research on basement flooring, and having the need for possible wetness, I decided that a carpet product would be the answer. The decision between the hard 1 foot squares and the softer 2 foot squares came down to the existing floor not being level, and having glue residue from the previous carpet. Both being solved by the Royal Interlocking Carpet. This is a wall to wall installation. With just over 500 square feet, it only took 7 hours of my time to trim to fit with a sharp utility knife around the edges and fully install the field. Putting the carpet down with the ''grain'' of the carpet in the same direction was easy following the arrows on the back. After a full vacuum of the carpet, the interlocking edges virtually disappeared. Ordering on the phone was super easy and resulted in a further discount and free shipping! The feel of the product under foot is firm yet supple, and I enjoy it very much! Can't wait to do the laundry room and storage areas!

Got the carpet tiles for my basement. Easy to install. It's seamless between the tiles, vacuum is not a problem; The color is a little bit inconsistent if you're ordering the same color. But you can play around to get a lighter/slightly darker alternate pattern, which is good. The thickness is perfect, they feel good on feet. customer service is very helpful in giving me ideas of the restock time.

This is a great option for basements that occasionally get wet. We had 16 inches in a couple of days and got water in our basement for the first time in years. But now we put down these interlocking tiles and the next time we get a deluge of rain we can just pull them up and let the basement dry and then put them back down again. They are foam backed so won't absorb moisture even if there is a little water that seeps through the cracks of the floor. Plus these tiles are so soft to walk on. Another bonus is that I was worried about vacuuming them and if carpet would catch in the vacuum between the tiles. But it didn't at all!
