24x24 Rubber Tiles

Because rubber is a heavy material when used for flooring, having a manageable size of tile is important to simplify installation. The variety of 2x2 rubber mats from Greatmats is sure to provide the perfect flooring for multiple use cases. You will receive the benefits of rubber in a size that’s easy to install.

Primarily depending on thickness, mats made from rubber and measuring 2 by 2 feet can weigh as little as 5 pounds or as much as almost 40 pounds. Larger rubber tiles and rolls can be far heavier and more awkward to handle.

Size and Shape Options

Our 2x2 rubber mats all have a squarish shape, which simplifies the process of trying to calculate the number of tiles to order to fit the planned installation space.

However, not all these tiles are perfectly square. Some of these are interlock tiles, meaning they connect together with a puzzle style edge. Some connect with a hidden interlocking edge, maintaining a visible square shape.

Others do not use an interlock edge, meaning they simply slide tightly next to each other, and the installer usually will glue them to the subfloor.

Thickness measurements for our 24x24 inch tiles will vary quite a bit, ranging from 1/4 inches to 5 inches. Thicker 2x2 ft. rubber mats or tiles will provide a higher level of cushioning and protection for the subfloor than thinner models. However, the thicker mats typically are more expensive and much heavier than thinner mats.

Material Options

These rubber floor tiles frequently consist of recycled rubber tires. The rubber from tires is completely safe to use around people and pets when used as flooring.

Other tiles consist of crumb rubber left over from the manufacturing of rubber rolls and other rubber products. These types of rubber also are safe for use around people and pets.

Using leftover rubber and recycled rubber helps to keep these materials out of landfills, giving our 2x2 rubber mats an eco-friendly design.

For tiles that make use of colored rubber flecks mixed in with the black rubber base, the manufacturer molds all the rubber together, maintaining the desired level of durability.

Pattern and Texture Options

The majority of our 2x2 rubber mats will consist of a solid black base color. A few of these tiles may make use of a solid color other than black, but this is not common.

For those seeking a splash of color, it is possible to find some of these tiles that contain a mixture of color flecks molded into the black base. A few designer models of tiles will use a base color other than black before adding in other color flecks.

Rubber has a natural tackiness to it, which helps people avoid slips when the flooring is wet. For a few models of these tiles, the manufacturer will add a textured pattern to the surface of the tiles, creating an extra grip for those walking across it.

Common Use Options

Rubber mats are useful in a wide range of settings. Customers will install them in areas where a highly durable floor is necessary. They also provide a little bit of cushioning in places where children may be running and falling, such as with indoor or outdoor playground flooring at home, at a school, or at a park.

Use these 2x2 rubber mats in a gym where noise reduction is important, such as where weight machines or free weights are in use. Rubber also works on a raised deck or on a roof patio, creating a type of flooring that can cover a worn wood deck or a concrete patio with ugly cracks and stains.

It also works as ballistic flooring at a shooting range or in an ax throwing lane. The rubber protects the subfloor and can reduce the ricochet and bounce of bullets or the axes.

Installation Options

Rubber flooring tiles are popular because of how easy they are to install. Most customers can do the installation as a DIY project.

For rubber mats that use an interlocking edge, just place the tabs on one mat into the slots on an adjacent mat and press them together. Customers do not have to add adhesive on the edges to maintain the integrity of the installation.

For flat edge tiles, installers typically will need to glue them to the subfloor. Some installers choose to use a dry lay installation method, counting on the weight of the tiles to keep them in place without sliding around.

Cleaning and Maintenance Requirements

Rubber does not need any special techniques to clean and maintain the flooring material. To remove dry debris, just use a push broom or a vacuum cleaner. You also can use a leaf blower to remove debris.

To wash the tiles, use a garden hose with a sprayer in an outdoor setting. You also can use a power washer on a gentle setting to wash the tiles. To apply a cleaning solution, rather than water alone, add a neutral pH cleaner to a bucket of water and apply it with a mop. Allow it to air dry.
