Home gym exercise mats and work out floor tiles and rubber rolls

Exercise flooring is available in a wide variety of options to closely match the needs of those using it. Choose from foams, carpets, vinyls, and plastics, as well as rubber flooring.

Use rubber gym flooring for under weightlifting gear and cardio areas. It is usually used to protect subflooring from heavy gymnasium equipment and from dropping weights. It is hard like a car tire and is, therefore, not ideal for exercises from a prone position.

Interlocking Tiles

The happy medium for a space with gear for workouts and where aerobics will take place is a soft plastic, such as our Staylock PVC, or a plyometric rubberized roll, which tends to be a great option for large areas. It's a more economical solution for wide open spaces and results in fewer seams than smaller sizes create.

If looking for workout floor mats that are comfortable and forgiving, then our interlocked exercise floor tiles may be the right choice. They make for the softest subflooring options available in an exercise room installation. They are preferred for cardio, martial arts, and other aerobic activities when shoes are worn. They provide cushion and thermal insulation, and they are also incredibly easy to install.

Puzzle exercise mats consisting of foams for exercise flooring offer safe, soft, and cushioned workout floor tiles that can be used for aerobics, stretches, and cardio.

Folding Gymnasium Exercise Rolls

Vinyl wrapped exercise mats that fold are perfect for workouts at the house and schools. These are the perfect solution for exercises that include rolling or falling, such as tumbling, gymnastics, and wrestling.

The Home Play Mat is one of our most popular exercise flooring products. It is comfortable for stretching and sit-ups. Lead and latex free with little to no odor, these are kid safe and perfect for any indoor space and feature a scuff resistant thatch upper layer.

For professional settings, we recommend our larger 1x1 meter interlocking foam that will provide a long lasting delivery for multipurpose applications. These have the versatility desired without the seams found on traditional puzzled edge matting.

One of Greatmats' newest workout puzzle mats is called Pebble 10 mm. This is made of high density material and features a durable pebble top surface design. For exercise flooring, these can be installed underneath hefty gear and are great for basement floors. Install these on any hard flat spot. Wear resistant, these will last for years in residential installations and come with a 1 year warranty.

Exercise Flooring Over Carpeting

For a wood grain look, consider our Max Tile with a raised base. These snap together pieces feature commercial grade vinyl floors in popular wood and slate designs. Use a 3 mm rubberized underlayment with this exercise flooring for added cushioning if installed for commercial athletic applications or atop concrete floors at the house. Max Tile is the top pick on the market because of its commercial vinyls and the simple connectability.

For a durable and cushioned model that can be placed atop carpeting, choose one of our Staylock modular selections. Made of a PVC plastic, it will not slide or separate over carpet.

Greatmats' Staylock has a bump top or orange peel surface in amazing colors for an upscale look. These workout tiles will provide durability and cushion and come with a 5-year warranty. They have the best anti fatigue ergonomic benefits for high intensity aerobic training.

Installation can be an easy DIY project, thanks to the interlocking exercise mats and rubber mats for gym that connect for a seamless fit. Interlocked rubber exercise flooring does not require glue or tape. Rolls are recommended to be taped down for installations at the house and glued down for larger pro level installations.

Cleaning and care of exercise flooring can be accomplished with little effort. Always use a neutral cleaner for a long wear and useful life. They can also simply be swept and vacuumed. Test the vacuum on an out of the way location to check for potential damage.

Shipping of exercise flooring for pro applications is generally via freight delivery due to size and/or weight of the product. Our workout mats can be shipped via ground service.

FAQ Exercise Flooring Q&A

What is the best workout flooring for a room?
Think about how people will be working out when choosing the right product for gym equipment. Interlocked tilings are ideal for home and professional locations, since they're easily installable and come in a variety of colors, thicknesses, and materials. They are usually available in a soft footing, as well as in a more durable, firmer, slip-resistant design.

Are EVA foam floor tiles good for gyms?
Yes. Generally, EVAs are intended for foot traffic only. However, some specialty EVAs are designed to withstand athletic shoes or boots, all while giving an excellent level of cushioning. If installing EVA under exercise equipment, it can become indented by heavier items. Treadmills left in place for extended periods of time can cause indentations in EVA. In this use case, rubbery floorings or mattings are desirable.

Is it bad to do workouts on concrete?
It can be stressful on the body’s joints. Foams are a popular option for basements with cement, because they can be installed directly on the concrete and can be easily removed as needed. They are waterproof and will not absorb any moisture that may seep through the cement.

Can you put foam floorings on carpet?
Foam flooring will not harm carpet. However, it will have more tendency to slip. Consider an option such as StayLock PVC Tiles that sit atop carpets without sliding.

Can I deadlift on carpet tiles?
It is possible, however, we highly recommend a rubber gym flooring surface under all deadlift areas. This can be achieved without removing carpet as long as the carpets have a low pile with plenty of firmness. At which point, you should add a layer of plywood over the carpet and then add the rubber mats or flooring on top of the plywood.
Plush pile carpet can lead to slipping and sinking.

What should I look for when buying high quality exercise mat flooring?
It's important to first determine how the athletes will use it. Key areas to consider are hardness, size, and expansion possibilities. Craftsmanship also plays a big role, so comparing warranties is a good place to start.

Should I pick specific materials for specific exercises?
Absolutely! Although many shock absorbent mattings can serve multiple purposes, sizes, surface textures, and installation methods of the thick exercise mats can all be customized to fit the needs for certain exercising routines.

What's the best cleaning solution for a home gym floor?
Most can be easy to clean using common household cleaners. If using rubbery tilings, they could be cleaned with neutral pH cleaners, avoiding solvent or oil-based cleaners.

What size should a gym mat be?
Again, this depends greatly on the type of exercising being performed. For sit-ups, exercise floor mats large enough to support the body from the tailbone to the head is key, for example. For combat sports, there needs to be enough space for basic moves. If exercising with a partner, take that into consideration as well.
