Blessings Farmhouse Creates Indoor Playground & Theater

When Kara and her husband had the chance to purchase a dilapidated farmhouse in Brown County, Indiana, they saw the home’s potential and started renovating it. In July 2024, Blessings Farmhouse opened its doors to its first guests.

“As a parent, vacation brings joy but also the stress of traveling with young kids,” explains Kara, who is also the property manager. ”I designed Blessings Farmhouse to make vacation as relaxing and stress-free as possible for the whole family.”

Blessings Farmhouse is not only a relaxing destination, but also functions as a way for families to connect and deepen their relationships. It features an indoor playground and theater room, game room, sensory board, outdoor playground, fire pit, game barn, and hammock.

In designing the indoor playground and theater room, Kara needed to create a space that was not only fun for families and kids, but also safe. “We wanted to create a fun space where kids and families of all ages could bond and play and get their energy out no matter the weather outside,” she says. The space features a small play gym for kids aged five and under, as well as a bigger slide, rings, and climbing wall for kids of any age. A theater is positioned on the opposite side of the room, including couches, chairs, and a projector. Families can watch movies together and kids who might not be ready to sit through the entire movie can also play on the playground.

“Safety was the most important aspect of the indoor playground for me,” Kara says. The playground is located in a basement, which has a concrete floor, so finding flooring that created a thick cushion was essential. “As a mom, my priority was safety,” explains Kara. “We knew that our kids would be playing here, as well as other kids of all ages and ability levels, and so we wanted to make sure that they were safe.

But finding the right flooring product wasn’t easy initially. “I spent hours upon hours researching floor mat options online and was frustrated that most options were thin and meant more for comfort than safety,” Kara said.
