Chemical Welding Seams for Lonseal Flooring: Double-Cut Method

Some tips before you start:
* Fully read the Lonsealer and DFT TDS, so you are completely familiar with their use. They will contain additional information not necessarily shown or mentioned in this video.
• Chemically welded seams must be double- or underscribe-cut to ensure the tightest seam possible.
Any gaps will prevent the sheets from chemically fusing.
• Always use DFT below the seams. Its use creates a clean-zone, preventing troweled adhesive from contaminating the seams.
• Practice on scrap material before attempting this on installed flooring.
* Lonsealer is flammable, so please be careful and read the SDS.

The following demonstration shows the double-cut method.

Overlap the adjacent sheets along the length of the seam.
Using a straight edge and utility knife, out through the overlapped
sheets.
Always use a sharp blade, and make multiple passes along the cut until you are through both sheets.
Tying to out through both sheets in one pass is difficult, and could resuit in a poor seam.
Any gaps will prevent proper welding and lead to seam failure.
Additional use of a hand roller at the seams, will help ensure strong, positive contact with the DFT.
Next, apply painter's or masking tape at both sides of the seam.
A single piece of wider tape could be used instead of the two
separate pieces shown.
It would be placed centered on the seam, but would need to be out down the middle to allow the needle to move freely,
Fully insert the needle into the seam and slowly move the tube.
along it.
The tube's angle can be adjusted to change the rate of flow, as can gently squeezing the tube.
The bead of Lonsealer on the tape's surface should be between 1/8 to 1/4 inch wide.
Allow 10 to 15 minutes for the Lonsealer to set, before removing the tape.
Pull the tape away at an angle to help split the bead; taking care to prevent any dripping onto the flooring.
You will want to avoid letting the Lonsealer fully cure before removing the tape. If you choose not to use tape, the bead of Lonsealer will make direct contact with the flooring.
In this case, allow the bead to fully set and cure.
Never attempt to wipe away the bead, as this will only smear the Lonsealer, which reacts to vinyl on contact. The smeared bead will result in an unsightly seam and be impossible to fully remove.
