How to Install Flexible Cheer Mats
The installation of flexible cheerleading mats from Greatmats takes just a little time. You’ll be set up for practice in no time with our roll-up mats. You don’t need any special tools or experience to install at home, a fitness center, a gymnastics studio, or a cheerleading studio. Follow these tips for the installation.
- To prepare and install the flexible cheer mats for the first time, carefully remove any packaging materials.
- Improper use of sharp objects to remove packaging can damage the material.
- Stand the roll on its side and unfasten the packaging straps. If you want to reuse the straps when placing the rolls in storage later, you can.
- To install the flexible cheer mats, unroll them with the carpet side facing upward. They should flatten quickly as they adjust to the temperature and humidity in the room.
- If you want to attach multiple rolls together, lay them side by side. Only use your hands to position the mats – rather than kicking them into place – as using your feet could damage them.
- Place the hook-and-loop connectors over the seams and press on them to secure them to the carpet top.
How to Store Flexible Cheer Mats
To store these roll-up cheer and gym mats, follow these tips.
- To disassemble the mats to place them into storage, remove any hook-and-loop connector strips that are holding individual mats together.
- Start rolling each mat with the carpet side on the interior of the roll and the foam on the exterior.
- Try to roll the mat as tightly as possible to simplify storage.
- Keep the edges of the mats straight and aligned as you roll them.
- Take your time when rolling up the mat to avoid coning the material.
- Stand the roll on its end and reapply the straps that shipped with the roll. Place the straps about 18 inches from the top and bottom edges.
- Applying the straps while keeping the roll tight is easier with a second person available.
- If the mat roll becomes coned, you can apply the straps and then shake the mat back and forth to force the edges to line up.
- Store the mat in a safe location to avoid any potential punctures on the exposed foam.
- Store the mat rolls upright on a flat surface.

- Inspect the mats regularly for any tears or damage that could compromise the safety of students or create a trip hazard.
