Waterfowler41 TurboTile DIY Garage Flooring Installation
Date Published: 03-08 - 2025
@WaterFowler41 is installing Greatmats TurboTiles over the concrete in his garage. These tiles have an easy DIY interlocking hook-and-loop mechanism to lock the tiles into place.
The plan for this garage space is to feature a black border around each garage door area, with a checkerboard pattern in the interior.
Since many tiles will be cut in half at the edges, Waterfowler41 will use a Floor Cutter for precise straight-edge cuts.
The Floor Cutter will provide a clean cut with a consistent line.
A T-square is also recommended for garages that have notches.
Due to temperature fluctuations, it's recommended to leave a 1/4 to 1/2 inch gap between the tiles and the wall to allow for expansion and contraction.
Install tip: Push the tile INTO the corner to align tile hoops better.
With one side of the garage complete, he will now start cutting the border tiles.
@WaterFowler41 is using a cardboard template to measure where the tile needs to be cut for a proper fit next to the steps.
Next, he will use the Floor Cutter to make a flat cut on the tiles to fit the space.
The tiles around the stairs are finished, each with a 1/2 inch gap to accommodate thermal expansion.
Here's the final look! It took him about 6 hours to complete the 600 sq.ft. space.
Some helpful tips include cutting the tiles towards the end of the project and saving the leftover pieces.
@WaterFowler41 reused the leftover end pieces from one side of the wall on the opposite side.
It is recommended to purchase a 5% overage to account for any errors or loss of coverage.
