How to Install, Maintain & Store Flexi-Connect Vinyl Roll Out Mats
At Greatmats, we have Flexi-Connect roll up mats that work for cheer stunt practice and gymnastics. These martial arts mats work for wrestling, too. Learn more about how to maintain, clean, store, and install connecting roll out mats.
How to Install Connecting Roll Out Mats
You do not need any special tools for the installation of our Flexi-Connect martial arts mats, although it does take a little practice to figure out the correct method. To install the connecting roll out mats, use the following tips.
- Remove any packaging materials from the rolls carefully to avoid puncturing the mats with a utility knife.
- Start with the edge of the roll that does not have a connecting flap.
- Place this edge at the corner of the planned layout space and begin to unroll the mat. Keep it squared up as you roll it out to ensure a solid layout.
- Add the next roll on top of and adjacent to the starting roll. The next roll should cover a few inches of the skive side of the starting roll.
- Move the second roll until its flap completely nests inside the skive section.
- Press the flap into the loop side of the Velcro or hook-and-loop connector side.
- Everything should be aligned with no visible gaps or overhanging sections. If you see alignment issues, pull the pieces apart and try again.
- Repeat the process for every roll you want to add to the layout.
- After installing all the mats, you should not see any gaps in the flooring, even as students are stepping on it and placing stress on the rolls.
How to Store Connecting Roll Out Mats
You can disassemble these rolls at any time to return to the original floor. Just store the rolls in a safe place until they’re needed again.
Follow these tips for disassembly and storage. Always roll up these mats by hand, rather than using a machine or your feet.
- Disassemble the hook-and-loop connector strips on the individual mats by hand.
- Do not pull on the sides or corners to try to force them loose. Only work on the flap with your hand for disassembly.
- Start rolling the outermost mat by hand. Keep the vinyl layer on the interior of the roll and the foam on the exterior.
- Focus on rolling the mat tightly to make it easier to store later.
- Once the rolls are tightly wound, move them to the storage area.
- Do not store them in areas where they could receive sun or weather exposure.
- Avoid storing the mats near items that could puncture them.
- Store the rolls on end on a flat surface. Place the end with the flaps upward and away from any surface pressure, as this pressure could cause damage.
- Never store other items on top of the rolls or the extended flaps, or you could damage them.
How to Maintain and Clean Connecting Roll Out Mats
You can clean and sanitize these mats relatively easily by following a few tips.
- Clean the vinyl layer regularly to ensure the longest lifespan from the mats.
- You can use approved disinfectants on the mats to reduce the chance of students forming skin infections.
- Never use bleach on the mats, or you could damage them and void the warranty.
- Never store the mats while the vinyl is still damp from cleaning. Allow them to fully dry before rolling them up.
- Inspect the mats regularly for any damage or punctures that could affect their integrity.
